ABOUT GUCIOS

...SOME FACTS AND USEFULL INFOS ABOUT GUCIO SHOES

HISTORY

galeria111.jpg

"My adventure with Gucio shoes began when my oldest son started to walk. I wanted to buy some new shoes for him but it turned out not to be an easy task. I visited a large number of shoe stores in Cracow, where I live, and I did not find anything that would satisfy me. Shoes offered to children were too tight in the toes area or had too stiff sole. Other had a very hard, cutting in heel, and some were made of an artificial material imitating leather. Some shoes that I could accept were far beyond my financial reach. I am a certified designer of shoes. I graduated from the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts where I majored in industrial forms and I have a diploma of Italian Design School. Finally, as despite of long researches I did not find what I was looking for, so I decided to make the perfect shoes by myself. The first samples I designed and made were very successful. But after conversations with some of the shoe manufacturers, it appeared that launching a production of my shoes in their factories would not be so simple. They accepted the idea, but they had no courage to invest in such a new, not-made-before product.
Therefore, I started to manufacture those shoes on my own. At the same time, I presented my project to the Polish Patent Committee.
Nowadays, my shoes are worn by my three children, my friends' children and the growing number of my satisfied clients' friends, who realised what is the best for their children's feet".

PATENT

Gucio shoes have a unique back, which is built as a cover at the back of the shoe-top. It covers the binding of the shoe-top and reinforces it as well. This back has a shape of a gusset creating a heel from the bottom, reinforced from the back and flexible external join fixed together. The flexible element of a heel has a shape of a trapezium and from the inside has a layer of a material more stiffed then all the rest of this element. The active height of this flexible element is equal to the maximum height of a heel's line. This innovation resolves a problem of back part of a shoe construction, which should offer high standard of usage, proper orthopaedic attributes and a long persistence, even during fast growth of a child and foot's size and proportions changes. The essence of the solution with this unique back is a narrow, vertical cut in the middle of a height in a cover equal to the 3/4 of that height. Advantageously the edges of the binding at the back are inserted into the cut of the cover. The vertical cut flexibly broadens, what allows to enlarge the longitudinal dimension of a shoe. Additionally the binding of a heel and the shoe-top around the vertical cut protect against tearing apart. It is especially important in case of the shoes made of delicate materials. Such solution helps to adjust shoe to different heel's widths. One more competitive feature of Gucio shoes is a solution at the shoe back seam. The edges of the seam insert into the vertical cut, which helps to avoid pressing on the heel and Achilles' tendon, which equals better adaptation to an individual anatomic shape of a foot. It is extremely important, as a heel is very sensitive. And the vertical cut together with the external seam make self-stiffness of a shoe heel at the point, where it clings to a heel.

PRODUCTION

produkcja.JPG

Gucio shoes are handmade shoes. As they are so small, it is more efficient to use old, non-electric machines to sew the little pieces of leather. The machines used in the production process are very old (from before the second World War) and unique (PFAFF and SINGER).
Threads are so specially designed, that when the child's foot is too big for a shoe, they delicately tear apart on the back (the shoes still can be worn, however it is a signal that they need to be replaced by the larger number). Gucio shoes with such threads are made as an option. For the Polish market the shoes are made with the regular, unbreakable threads, however very soft ones. A new shoe adjusts to a foot of an individual in sole part, simultaneously creates a proper matrix of a posture. As every child walks differently, each child needs a new pair of shoes for her/his own use. Possible second or even third owner would wear shoes of worse properties to correct posture. It may even hurt them.

It means that the shoes are good in every sense to all of the particular needs of a growing young body. Gucio shoes are given the "Zdrowa Stopa" certificate. It means, that the shoes are made properly in a esthetical, material and what seems to be the most important - technological way.

WEARING

gaja.jpg

As Gucio shoes are made of fine, thin leather, they are not waterproof.
They are perfect for home wear (as sneakers for example) and for spring-summer-autumn sunny weather. For summer, we offer them with special holes for better ventilation.
Gucio shoes may be washed manually with a delicate soap and brush. However, we are aware of the cases, when the shoes survived several washes in the washing machine in warm water (60°C, 140°F). Then they need to be dried at room temperature. To avoid deformation - they need to be stuffed with paper.
NOTICE: There is a plastic clip on every shoelace, which is an alternative to doing up the laces. If you decide to use those clips, please tie a knot on a lace (this will prevent a possible taking it off from the lace and swallowing by a child).
